Are health & wellbeing awards worth it?

Workplace awards are a great way to recognise the hard work HR/H&S put into making orgainsations a great place to work. The organisation gets brand recognition, publication in one of the broad sheets, and benefits from analysis on organisational culture helping to benchmark attitudes towards health - whether facilities are being utilised.

Many of the awards are free to participate and you are guided through the process, providing you with free marketing and nudging when milestones are imminent.

Health & wellbeing awards certainly do have a place in promoting organisations to be a great place to work – in terms of new recruits and retention. We have worked with companies to help them achieve their award status - and we know they are great organsiations because they are winners of Britains Healthiest Workplace Award, or the Great Place to Work Best Workplace Award.

We’ve learned a lot from working with these companies. We know they want something simple yet effective which is educational and something they can easily apply within the organisations culture to help them achieve their workplace award.

In addition to our adhoc health & wellbeing services (seminars/webinars/health screening/wellbeing days) we also have an annual health & wellbeing package called The Feel Great Programme which is based around the NHS health awareness days. We have matched each NHS health awareness event with a service either we or one of our partners provide. Here are what we consider the main areas of health concern:

  • Mental health – working with MIND charity to bring you ½ day training to support and empower anyone with a mental health problem.

  • Nutrition – minor injuries accounted for 95% of absence in 2016 (2016 CIPD Absence Report). Improving knowledge of nutrition to reduce the incidence and duration of colds, flu, stomach upsets, headaches, migraines.

  • Musculoskeletal – working with specialists in corporate onsite massage to address musculoskeletal injuries which accounted for 44% of short term absence (2016 CIPA Absence Report)

  • Sleep – learning to improve sleep and reduce the reliance on a cocktail of caffeine and sugar with Nick Littlehales author of Sleep Amazon #1 best seller.
