The New England Journal of Medicine reported on a study of over 120,000 people in the US measured the weight of participants over 4 year periods. The study revealed the 5 foods which contributed to most weight gain were:

crisps, potatoes, sweet drinks, processed meats & unprocessed meats.

The 5 which contributed to weight loss were:

vegetables, whole grains, fruit, nuts & yogurt.
